Pros: Comfortable keyboard for email/texting. Nice sized screen and pretty good web browser for mobile web. Decent build quality and nice look/feel.

Cons: Cover keypad auto-locks too quickly during a phone conversation – can be quite annoying when you need to enter numbers. No advanced productivity features. Very poor app support.

Bottom line: A good phone if you just use it for browsing/texting/email. The browser is good, and the email interface (with common mail servers such as Google and Yahoo!) is easy to use. This phone is clearly designed for a younger group of customers who mainly text, browse, use Facebook and Tweeter. It is not designed for professionals at all. If you want a smartphone that loads Google Maps with full features, runs various productivity softwares and is great for voice calling and multimedia, look elsewhere.

I purchased this phone not from Spring but from Boost Mobile for its pay as you go plan with wireless 3G data service at a very, very reasonable price. If you are like me, someone who spends a lot of time in front of computers at work and at home, mostly make internet voice calls on computers, doesn’t need so many minutes as on regular monthly cell phone plans and doesn’t want to pay for the over-priced data plan for mobile web… then for you this would be a good little extra device for mobile web browsing when you don’t have a computer or WIFI connection on you main cell phone.

This has been by far the WORST phone I have ever owned. I bought this phone when it first came out. The very first NO NO about this phone is that you need to use software on your computer to access the exchange server. If the laptop that is running the software is off, you have no access to the exchange server. Also, I had to be connected to the intranet via Ethernet at my job for the exchange server software to work. If I connect wirelessly and VPN into my jobs intranet, I would still not have access to the exchange server. This was very poorly done.

Second, I had major issues with the touch screen. I would have to press the side of the button to press the button. This became VERY frustrating. Some buttons wouldn’t even press when I pressed them. Using the web browser on this thing was absolutely horrible because of this issue. You try to press an icon on the web browser, and nothing happens. You have to figure out where to press on the screen to activate the icon you are trying to press.

THIRD, this phone starts becoming possessed. The phone buttons were being pressed on its own. It got so bad to where I couldn’t make a phone call. I took it back to sprint and the guy couldn’t even swap phone numbers with the new phone because the phone was acting so crazy. After receiving a BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT, 6 weeks later, the replacement started doing the same possessed thing. This time, I didn’t let it get to bad before I replaced it. What killed me on the replacement was that fact they sent me a refurbished replacement for my third phone. I’m thinking, it can’t get any worse. I had this third replacement for a few days now. There are issues with this replacement. I cannot get full screen when viewing the web browser.

I called sprint and told them to cancel my contract. It would be nice if you could waive the cancellation fee. But I am so hating this phone that I’ll take a lost and pay the $200 cancellation fee to depart from this phone.

Ordered the phone from Amazon and received it within a reasonable time frame. Phone works well, but could not receive the stated $50 worth air time credit after activation of the phone. Contacted Amazon several times, call always got terminated once discussion on this started (not really terminated, just been placed in idle – no more response from the other end after providing information needed). I have been a BB user for years and used many devices on many carriers in my time. The Blackberry Tour 9630 is by far the worst phone ever made by RIM. Let’s start with the most obvious flaw… the trackball. It doesn’t work. Period. There is a serious manufacturing issue with this phone and none of them have working trackballs. I have had mine replaced more times than I can count and I still don’t have a working phone.

The keyboard is poorly designed. I came from the 8830 WE, and there is no comparison. I do like the keys all being together more than say the Curve, but the indicidual buttons on the Tour do not have ridges like the 8830 WE. They have odd little despressions on the corners that make it very hard to type on, plus the keyboard being smaller than the 8830 WE.

The speed of the phone while using the OS is very slow. Slower than the Curve or 8830 WE. I am not sure how they accomplished this with supposedly better hardware in the Tour, but they did.

I switched to AT&T from T-mobile a couple months back (a big mistake). I have experienced a hellish experience with AT&T services. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with AT&T customer service if you decide to use their service.

Why buy these $500+ phones new and get stuck with a 2-yr contract when the phone doesn’t last even a year?

It’s almost like BAIT & SWITCH by AT&T. They stop “carrying” the particular expensive phone in less than a year so when the phone dies in a few months AT&T won’t have to exchange it with a new one for you… but they got your contract for 2 years… with a cheaper phone in exchange. Before wasting your money on a new expensive AT&T smartphone, ask yourself if you’re ok with having to warranty exchange your new phone with a USED refurbished one in less than a year.
